A collection of stories about traveling in and towing RVs
Wildsam is now the exclusive magazine for Elite Members. This all-new benefit brings you 8 digital editions and 4 print issues per year. Read (and drive) on!
There’s an old maxim in the long-haul trucking world: “Be a driver, not a steering wheel holder.” The directive suggests that, when you grip the wheel, you should understand both your rig and the road ahead—always at attention, always anticipating and navigating hazards. The adage could easily apply to those who drive motorhomes and tow recreational trailers, too.
We’re supposed to be confident and capable in the captain’s chair. But becoming a master takes time. Nobody is an expert the first time they hook up a trailer or shift into gear. The road is a great teacher, but it can take thousands of miles—which prompt thousands of questions—before an RVer feels fully comfortable at the helm.
We had this in mind as we compiled stories for our “Travel and Towing” issue. From how braking systems actually work, to how to safely tow a travel trailer, and where to take it once you’re in motion, we dove into questions we thought would be on the minds of RVers, no matter where they find themselves on the journey from steering wheel holder to driver.
