EVERGREEN STATE OF MIND
In a funny way, Washington can slide under the radar when it comes to states of epic scale, shaded by giants like Alaska and Texas and mystique-y Colorado. The 440-mile Cascade Loop is here to correct that, weaving together nine distinct regions.

The Drive
The Loop's far northern reaches include HIGHWAY 20, a remote section that typically starts reopening in April—though it's wise to check.

NORTHERN EXPOSURE
The abundant natural wonders of the circuit include North Cascades National Park, an alpine realm of glaciers and sparkling lakes. Trail conditions can dictate lower-elevation exploration in April, but elsewhere on the drive, tulips will be popping.

RIVERSIDE RETREAT
Also back in action in April: Riverbend RV Park, a plush spread along the Methow River in Twisp, a town both stunning and cozy.
